Barn Conversion, South-East of York

Project summary

Our client, an experienced property developer with a strong passion for blending architecture and interior design, approached us to help realise a bold vision for a former farmstead.

This project centres on the conversion of a traditional threshing barn as part of a wider redevelopment, which also included the restoration and extension of a Victorian farmhouse and the transformation of a second, single-storey barn complex. The result is the creation of three distinctive, substantial homes, each combining rural character with contemporary living.

Our practice’s portfolio of sensitive yet forward-thinking rural architecture aligned closely with the client’s ambitions. The design carefully balances conservation and innovation — retaining the integrity of the historic agricultural buildings while introducing modern interventions that unlock their potential for residential use.

The result is a thoughtful and elegant example of contemporary rural living, where the charm of the countryside and the heritage of the site are seamlessly integrated with the needs of modern life.
